The U-High Midway’s Caroline Hohner has been named to the Illinois Journalism Education Association’s All-State Journalism Team.

The achievement is for student journalists who put their publication first by sacrificing extra time, and students who demonstrate leadership, energy, dedication and skillful work behind the scenes.

Over the course of her two years on the Midway, Caroline has served as assistant editor, health and wellness editor and arts co-editor. She was recently named as features editor.

Caroline enjoys going into the Laboratory Schools community to learn about and share what people are doing.

“I really like to get out into the community and see what people are up to,” Caroline said, “because there’s a lot of really interesting people at Lab and it’s really nice to hear what they’re all passionate about.”

She also has a great appreciation for the environment created by the Midway staff.

“Being on a team is really great,” she said. “The Midway staff, it’s a really good group of people,” Caroline said.

This is the eighth year in a row that someone on the Midway staff has been named to the IJEA All-State Journalism Team. Since this award began in 2005, a Midway staff member has been selected 14 times.

Caroline said, “It was nice to be recognized for contributions and the extra time that I’ve put in.”
