Update, June 4, 6:30 p.m.: Graduation is on June 12. An earlier version of this story’s headline listed it as happening on June 5.
The Class of 2025 graduation ceremony will be held June 12 from 2-4 p.m. in Rockefeller Chapel. Laura Jarrett, a 2003 alumna who is now a senior legal correspondent for NBC News, will be this year’s commencement speaker.
Senior Class president Keira Harter, Sonakshi Mutreja and Lisa Tao will give speeches. Musical performances include an instrumental quartet with Keira Harter, Maggie Bai, Katharine Christensen and Wendell He, as well as a vocal duet of Theo Hinerfeld and Hana Javed.
Ms. Jarrett said she is excited to return to Lab, noting that she hasn’t spent significant time on campus since graduating. Ms. Jarrett also emphasized that she hopes her speech will inspire graduates to take chances.
“One of the great things about Lab that you don’t quite appreciate while you’re there is how much it’s giving you the building blocks and foundation for success later in life,” she said. “With that foundation comes an obligation to take risks in a way that I hope the graduating seniors will feel relief with someone giving them that permission.”
Eli Raikhel, Senior Class vice president and member of the graduation committee, explained that Ms. Jarrett was chosen as the speaker because of her inspiring and nontraditional career history.
“She hasn’t had the most straightforward career path after high school,” Eli said. “We wanted to show that whatever you do after graduating, it will be OK, and you can take all kinds of different paths.”
Lisa, the 2024-25 all-school president, said she was inspired by last year’s graduation speeches and said she aspires for hers to be just as meaningful.
“I hope my speech feels personal and people think about it years into the future,” she said. “I want people to be able to connect with what I’m saying while thinking about their own high school careers.”
