Six ninth graders have declared their candidacy in the upcoming Class of 2023 election, which will take place Sept. 27. Campaigning will be this week, and each candidate will give a speech in Judd 116 on the day before the election, Sept. 26, during lunch.

Running for class president are Fermi Boonstra and Vincent Zhang. Ellie Pinto is the only candidate for vice president. Lena Stole, Akshay Badlani and Charles Benton are running for Cultural Union.

New this year, each candidate was required to submit a written statement detailing their prior experience, ideas for the year, and goals for being on Student Council along with their petition. These statements can be found for each candidate on the Student Council website.

Dean of Students Ana Campos said that a requirement like these statements has been thought about for awhile, and that this election is a trial run for that requirement.
