A  final curbside flu clinic will be held on Oct. 27 outside Earl Shapiro Hall. The clinic is coordinated by Kristen Szewczyk, lead nurse at Lab, and Health4Chicago, an organization based out of Comer Children’s Hospital hoping to help Chicagoans stay healthy.

Students and their families will be presented with three different options for being treated to prevent the spread of COVID-19: a drive-up stop where families may park to receive a flu shot while remaining in the car, an outdoor walk-up option and a mobile clinic where a person may go inside to receive a shot.

Flumist will be available in limited quantities and reserved for younger patients. Tdap and adolescent vaccinations will also be available.

“It is more important than ever to get a flu shot,” Ms. Szewczyk said.

Doing so may protect students from getting the flu and having to quarantine from their jobs and their families due to symptoms similar to COVID-19. It may also keep people in school because those showing flu-type symptoms must quarantine for 10 days, and it will keep people out of the hospital, many of which are hot zones for COVID-19 due to the many COVID-19 patients.

Anywhere from 120-150 people may arrive at the clinic throughout the day, and people are required to bring a mask.
