Jacob Liu: Cultural Union vice president

What new ideas would you bring to the table? What is your main goal?

My main goal is to bring back grade lock-ins, an event where students can stay overnight at school with their classmates. We actually had this as an event pre-pandemic, but since I came into high school during the pandemic I was personally not able to experience one of these events, so I want to be able to provide this experience for other students. I think it would be something for the student body to look forward to maybe during a tough time, like as motivation to push through the heavy weeks.

What experiences and skills make you a good candidate for this role?

I’m on ASA board, ArtsFest board, and I’m on PromCom 2024, all of which partake in planning social events. For example, I helped facilitate Art in the Dark, and ASA is working on the upcoming AAPI heritage event, so I want to take these skills that I’ve developed from facilitating these events to Student Council. In addition, I have my fair share of leadership positions in these roles, which I think would be a good skill set to bring to the table as well.

I think that after a school event it would be helpful to ask around from some of the student body what they thought about it, and how it could be improved. I would definitely bring up any suggestions to Student Council meetings and reach out to the necessary faculty members to make the change. I also have some input from my own experiences, that I’m hoping to be able to incorporate if I am elected as Cultural Union vice president.
