The Diversity Advisory Committee will host an open forum Feb. 22 at 3:45 p.m. via Zoom to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion concerns and situations in the Lab community.

The DAC is composed of administrators, parents and students committed to ensuring Lab upholds its claim of honoring diversity. The committee meets on the first Monday of each month.

All Lab community members are welcome to attend without any prior registration.

Student representative Taig Singh, senior, said the forum’s goal is to gather student perspectives regarding DEI at Lab.

“This is one of the best ways we have to gather student perspectives and what other students are experiencing in their day-to-day and class-to-class lives,” he said.

After taking notes, the student representatives will present the data to the rest of the DAC, including the Laboratory Schools director, DEI director and dean of students.

“It is a group of people who really care and want to do something about what the student body is concerned about, and so we will address the concerns talked about during the forum to the rest of the committee,” he said.

Taig said hosting the forum over Zoom will increase student and faculty participation.

“Initially, you might think people would not want to participate that much over Zoom,” he said, “but students’ and teachers’ schedules are extremely busy, and we could not find a time that worked for everyone.”

The DAC plans to host more forums in the future.

Taig said, “The forum will be an open discussion and a back and forth kind of conversation, so I really encourage students to attend.”
