Students and families gathered on the evening of Oct. 13 in Room C116 to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, in a party hosted by the Desi Culture Group. The festivities included food, a DJ and a performance of the Ramlila, a traditional Diwali play.
Room C116 glowed with festive lights, as well as ethereal orange drapery. Various dishes were served to the many guests of the party. Flower petals and candles decorated the floor.
Co-Leader of the Desi Culture Group Bhawna Singh helped organize the party.
“It’s time to drive out all the negativity from you, from your household, and particularly yourself, and welcome new light,” Ms. Singh said.
This year also featured Lab students from the early childhood, lower and middle schools performing a Ramlila play, a reenactment of when the great King Rama returned home with his wife Sita after 14 years of exile.
Ninth grader Saanika Dutta helped out at the front desk for the celebration.
“I think it’s gone really well,” Saanika said.
Saanika also said the turnout for this year’s celebration was really great and the event was very well organized.
After the Ramlila play, guests were treated to dinner outside in the courtyard.
Ms. Singh said,“We want to welcome everyone and take this year forward with positivity.”
