Junior Isolde Wedemeyer holds up a decorated tote bag during the Art in the Dark exhibition on the evening of Feb. 27. Participants in the exhibition were encouraged to perform, display and showcase their creations and talents. “I think it was nice to experience some art in different ways, and making the tote bag was really fun,” Isolde said, “and when I gave it to my dad he was really happy about it. I just got a new dog and he’s going to put her toys in the bag.”
After the Art in the Dark exhibition on Feb. 27, the U-High community gathered for a traditional assembly Feb. 28 featuring dance performances and a discussion panel led by Principal Martin Woods with four Chicago-based artists. Then, from woodcarving to slime-making and cooking to ceramics, students engaged with and created their own art in a series of workshops led by members of the community throughout the rest of the day.
