After multiple team members were injured, the girls basketball team ended its season on Feb. 10 at the first game of playoffs, losing 36-37 to Dyett High School. Before losing members to injuries, the team was undefeated in conference before winter break.
Lucy Aronsohn, a junior point guard on the team, explained that having members out changed the team environment.
“It was definitely a struggle, it was really hard,” she said.
Because of the missing members, Lucy observed that team members had to try and fill the absences.
“I thought a lot of ninth graders stepped up, which was really great to see,” she said.
But having multiple team members out lead to a disappointing loss for the team in the first round of the playoffs.
“We didn’t really win at all after break,” Lucy said.
She explained that it was even more disappointing because of how good they were doing earlier in the year before multiple team members were injured. But, she says, after the injuries the team struggled.
Based on the efforts of the ninth graders this year Lucy is hopeful that they will be able to make it further next year.
