Since the U-High Podcast Club’s creation in September, members have been working toward the goal of helping students and faculty members understand one another outside of the classroom, and after months of preparation they have released their first episode, asking longtime community members and new teachers about their experiences at Lab.
“It’s been a lot more difficult than I thought.”
That was club captain Charlotte Grace Satalic.
“Getting the equipment for it, and also the questions to have the interview be very engaging and less awkward.”
Having had the idea of creating a more friendly environment for students and teachers since before the club had started, the real difficulty of making a podcast came from learning how to make the idea a reality.

“I really knew nothing about recording equipment, just I had the idea and everyone else has helped me make it what it is.
The process of learning how to make a podcast for the first time may have come with its tribulations, but it has really helped Charlotte and the rest of the team get close to their goals.
“I think it’s helped me honestly just getting to know other people, teachers specifically has made me feel a lot better, it makes me feel like I am learning more, not just academically, but who people are, where they come from, how they got to lab, and I feel like that’s very important”
In this first episode the team focuses on the idea of perspective, according to creative director Clara Blucher.
“Our main goal with this podcast episode is kind of to see the differences between a teacher who had been here a very long time, and a teacher who was new to Lab, just this year.”
While the podcast as a whole serves as a window to the several other perspectives at Lab, this particular episode also centers around another theme: the change that surrounds us.
We’ve had a lot if change this year, we’ve got a new principal, we’ve got a new schedule and I think its a nice reminder that even though there’s a lot of change our community is still our community, we are still Lab, we’re all experiencing that change together.
The creation of this club has really helped Charlotte accomplish her goals, and by continuing to make more episodes, she hopes to continue to help people see their community outside of the classroom.
“I felt very disconnected from the teachers in school, and there are some teachers that I haven’t even talked to before so I wanted to start the club with the goal of getting to know teachers better and getting closer with them.
The Podcast Club is now preparing for its second episode, shifting the focus from our teachers, to the students who lead our sports teams. Charlotte hopes that by doing this we gain a greater understanding not only of our teachers, but of our classmates as well.
“Since our first episode is more about the teachers, we wanted to include more of the student body and also get to know our classmates as equally as our teachers.
The Podcast Club plans to continue making U-High a more friendly place, one episode at a time.
