Evelyn Halbach has a passion for learning about the environment, one that earned her first place in her proposed product after participation in a Young Entrepreneur Academy program in Chicago.
The program is a national class directed toward Middle School and High School students. The class helps students to generate business ideas, conduct research, write business proposals, pitch to a panel of investors, and eventually launch their own companies.
“We were able to go and visit lots of women owned businesses in Chicago, and it felt really empowering to me to see all of these strong women,” Evelyn said. “I was very grateful for the opportunity to create my own business board game.”
Evelyn’s product that won her first place was a board game called EcoFrenzy, a game based on the science involved in the world of pollination. She not only placed first, but also won $1,800 and a promise from the team of investors to purchase the first 50 games from her. Evelyn will next head to the national Saunders competition.
Evelyn created the game based on her own personal passion and interest in the environment and insects. The game consists of flower cards which come in six different colors that attract six different pollinators. From there, the game is all strategy with various rules and restrictions, keeping the players on their toes.
Evelyn said she was very excited to keep marketing her product, and growing her passions and interests.
