What sort of ideas, projects or initiatives do you have for next year? What is your main goal?
“I want to do two main things. The first is to make senior year a memorable experience for everybody because it’s our last year together. So I’d be continuing the grade bonding activities, and getting some more merch. I want to make it something that you can look back on in later years and remember your senior year as a fun time. I also want to just try and give the seniors the most support I can during like the college application process, because I know like it’s super stressful, and especially for people who are in classes that have like sophomores or juniors in them, teachers sometimes won’t be as lenient about stuff and won’t really understand that. On top of all your schoolwork, you also have to write your essays and stuff, so I’d be trying to figure out a way to make the teachers more understanding with that and also provide support for the students.”
What experiences and skills make you qualified for this position?
“I’ve been working with some clubs at Lab. I’m on the board of two clubs: the Save the Children Action Network Club and the Save the Animals Club. And so I feel like from those, I’ve been able to develop organization skills. I feel like I’m able to kind of manage my work and also communicate between people which would help in an office like this, trying to communicate between the teachers and the students and trying to organize everything that has to be done to get my initiatives passed. I try my best to be friendly to everyone and to say ‘Hi’ to people in the hallways, and I think that we have a really great class.”
How do you plan on being the middleman at the intersection of high school students, faculty and administration?
“I’m fine with talking to teachers and giving back feedback on their things. I like to ask around and see what other people think about like an assignment or like a test or something. And I just think that I would be able to, without offending any of the teachers, let them know what students are thinking. And one of my ideas has been to create a system where students can anonymously come to me and the rest of the Student Council board and share complaints or requests for the teachers that they might feel uncomfortable going directly to, just to give them the space to share their opinion. I’ve had some experience dealing with the administration in trying to get things done, and I think that I would be able to stand my ground.”
