Updated Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m.: In a runoff election held today, Zain Zaidi was elected to the Class of 2028 Student Council as Cultural Union representative.
The Class of 2028 elected Aditya Shukla as president for 2024-25 in the Oct. 11 ninth grade Student Council elections. Kai Lichtenbaum will be the vice president, and Shivan Shachdev will be one of two Cultural Union representatives. For the first time in over a decade, a run-off election will be held following a tie between Cultural Union representative candidates Zeidan Rowe and Zain Zaidi on Oct. 16.
Aditya said he wants to ensure his class is represented.
“I want to make sure that the freshman voice is heard on the Student Council, even though we’re the youngest,” Aditya said in an interview with the U-High Midway. “I think we deserve to be heard — and I want to plan unique, fun events that are more grade-focused.”
Kai said that as vice president, he wants to focus on event planning and informing students about course options.
“I hope to plan fun events for our grade, and I want to create a Lab period for students to learn about course options throughout the rest of high school,” Kai said.
Voting closed at 3:30 p.m, with an election turnout of 79%. On Oct. 10, the class had gathered in Griffin Auditorium to hear election speeches from candidates.
