Two students have organized a new club to create a fun and social environment to play the card game euchre.
Euchre Club is a low-commitment club that meets in Room N-301 every Thursday lunch period.
“I was surprised at how many people showed up, and at how many people wanted to learn or already knew how to play euchre,” said Devyn Moubayed, one of Euchre’s club leaders. “It’s such a fun, social club.”
Euchre is played in rounds with a deck of 32 cards. Players each place a single card, and the player who places the highest-ranking card takes a “trick.” The objective of the game is to win at least three of five tricks.
“My family would play euchre all the time,” Devyn said. “I fell in love with it, I was playing so much.”
Devyn then learned of other students in her grade who also played the game and decided to create Euchre Club.
In the future, Devyn plans to participate in partner tournaments in the club.
“I hope it can be a space for everyone,” she said, “to learn and play euchre and have a break from school stress.”
