The Science Olympiad team placed second at a competition at Lake Central High School on Jan. 25.
The competition was a fun way to boost team spirit for Science Olympiad members, and an opportunity to evaluate weaknesses and know how to move forward, according to Keira Harter, a team captain.
Keira said the team attends this competition yearly.
“This competition is not as intense,” she said, “so the function is to get some team spirit and make sure people are serious.”
At the Jan. 25 competition, around 15 Science Olympiad members were separated into groups of three. Each group was assigned to a specific event, in order to focus on different subjects.
Keira said U-High has won first place in this competition before, and she hopes they can use this experience for the future as they get into the main competition season.
“The competition was all right,” she said. “However, we prefer to see first place.”
Overall, Keira enjoys the atmosphere of her Science Olympiad team, emphasizing the team as a place to connect with people with similar interests.
“I’ve always found the team very supportive,” Keira said, “and it’s nice to be around other people who are interested in science.”
