The Model United Nations team attended the Harvard MUN conference during the weekend of Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, where over two-thirds of the team earned awards.
This event brought together students from around the globe for a weekend of high-level diplomacy and debate. The team had 15 delegates place at the competition, with several team members receiving awards such as best delegate and diplomatic commendation.
Alexander Saratovsky received a best delegate award despite facing skilled competition.
“In my committee, I competed against the delegates of teams across the country, and even ones from Tunisia, Peru and Hong Kong. The experience was a unique challenge,” he said.
Helen Kraemer was honored for diplomatic commendation along with Owen Hannan. She said the team focused on creating a highly competitive atmosphere at the conference.
“We initially went into the conference with the goal of providing a very competitive experience,” she said, “especially for our freshman as they’ll be attending the Northwestern Model United Nations Conference in the spring. I think that Harvard Model United Nations did end up providing a competitive experience that will be extremely helpful moving forward.”
