The Model United Nations team won best small delegation at the North American Invitational Model UN Conference at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Feb. 13-16. The team had a 100% placement rate, with most members achieving awards such as best delegate and outstanding delegate.
The competition was emotional as it was the last one for the secretaries-general, seniors Alexander Saratovsky and Helen Kraemer, before they graduate.
“Me and my co-captain, Helen, we’ve been doing this since our first week of freshman year, so it’s bittersweet,” Alexander said. “We love our team, and we can’t think of a better group of people to travel across the country with … It’s nice to see that we have such a positive team to celebrate as we close our careers.”
Alexander, who also served as one of the captains for the trip, said the team faced difficulty choosing who would come to Georgetown. He said there were just 14 spots, but there were additional qualified people on the team.
Taara Sajdeh, who was one of the sophomores selected, felt honored to attend such a competitive space.
She said, “I was very very excited because getting selected for NAIMUN is a very big accomplishment.”
