The varsity girls basketball team ended its season on Feb. 15 in the first round of regionals, losing 13-38 to Dyett High School. The team had only secured two victories in 15 games this season.
Due to missing members and injury setbacks, two out of the three team captains, seniors Juliana Walker and Lucy Aronsohn, were both absent at the final game, Juliana with a concussion and Lucy on an out-of-town trip.
“It was definitely a challenging season,” Lucy said. “We had, in my opinion, the hardest schedule in terms of the teams we played. Even though it was hard and we did lose a lot, I do think the team got really close.”
Juliana agreed with Lucy, saying that the team played well together; they played defense, offense, and had good energy on the court.
“I would say that even though we didn’t win that much in games,” Juliana said, “I feel like the team really grew in different ways — when it comes to connecting with each other, being able to play with each other, and simply being able to compete against really difficult teams — and I was really proud of that.”
She added that the team is inspired to push ahead and continue to work hard, have fun, and compete as much as possible.
Lucy said that while the season may be over, the team is planning an outing within the next month, ideally bowling.
