When I became a dedicated reader a year ago, I started to consume more book content to get recommendations and hear people talk about the hobby that I like so much. I soon found the podcast “Bookmark’d” on Spotify. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading or talking about books. It is run by two women who have their own book-focused YouTube accounts, Sara Carolli and Destiny Sidwell. In their new videos every Thursday, they discuss their daily lives, pop culture events, and most importantly, anything book related. When listening to their podcast, it feels like I am on FaceTime with two best friends who are casually chatting and laughing. With charming personalities and funny, diverse content, “Bookmark’d” is a cozy podcast for any reader!

No piece of written, filmed or spoken media has ever quite captured the rushing and chaotic essence of a young woman’s mind like “The Broski Report.” Whether its host, Brittany Broski, is unpacking deeply meaningful writing, chronicling what she had for lunch or randomly breaking out in song, her podcast truly gives the feeling of chatting with a friend. I find myself revisiting “The Broski Report” any time I feel lonely — whether that be while driving home from school, tidying my room or running on the treadmill. She shies away from no topic, and her lighthearted humor mixed with profound sophistication have a way of normalizing in the listener's mind so many characteristics of both girlhood and general life.

Since “Call Her Daddy” hosted by Alex Cooper began in 2018, it has gained a cult following due to its pure honesty, advice on a wide range of themes and its celebrity and influencer guests. Listeners continue to tune in because of Ms. Cooper’s ability to make light of the topics of relationships, being a woman in today's society and personal growth. At its core, “Call Her Daddy” is all about empowerment and the importance of creating our own narrative. Each episode is full of honesty and deeper subjects, which Ms. Cooper is able to lighten with her witty, confident and comedic presence. She has interviewed guests that range from reality TV stars to former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential race. “Call Her Daddy” is undoubtedly one of the most compelling and relatable podcasts out there. Ms. Cooper’s bold and hilarious personality brings a fresh perspective to topics many are hesitant to discuss, making it a must listen for anyone wanting unfiltered insights, empowering advice and a good laugh.

While this podcast’s name was created as a joke, “Emergency Intercom” is perfectly fitting: cohosts Drew Phillips and Enya Umanzor demand your attention with their complicated, crass humor and hilarious friendship, letting listeners in on the inside joke. We also get to know the podcast’s sound guy, Ky Newman, whose dynamic with the cohosts is an entertaining highlight of each episode. Beyond the podcast’s unserious surface, though, Drew and Enya work through a range topics with their listeners: they dig in to each of their experiences with addiction, tell stories about an exploitive manager they had as teenage internet stars and explore the challenges of mental health upkeep in the current political atmosphere. If you are looking for a show that approaches heavy subjects with unfiltered hilarity, “Emergency Intercom” is a perfect fit.

Monsters Among Us

If you're into spooky, spine-chilling, monster stories, “Monsters Among Us” is a podcast you do not want to miss. I've been listening to this podcast’s many episodes for years and have been listening to it every day since. The podcast consists of random callers from around the United States telling addicting stories of encounters they have had with “monsters,” ghosts and other supernatural events and entities. Host Derek Hayes has an ominous, crunchy voice that adds to a serious and spooky factor of the podcast. Mr. Hayes reports them as hears them without judgement and never opines on whether these encounters are true or fake. He also provides excellent historical context and shares what is known about regional and national legends and myths related to the callers’ reports, such as about Big Foot sightings or the recurring appearances of the bizarre, bone-chilling and time-freezing “Mirrored Men.” As a monster skeptic, I appreciate this.
