Water main break closes Historic Campus at 3:30 p.m., cancels afterschool activities
January 17, 2019
A water main break on Kenwood Street forced the Historic Campus to close at 3:30 p.m., cancelling all activities after school.
The City of Chicago will cut off water to both the Historic Campus and athletic buildings to repair the break. Under city ordinance, buildings cannot be kept open if there is no running water.
Dean of Students Ana Campos notified high school students of the school closure at the end of the Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly around 11:20 a.m.
All afterschool activities, including athletics practices and games, are canceled. Principal Stephanie Weber and Assistant Principal Asra Ahmed said it’s still unknown whether the school will be reopened for classes on Friday.
