Enough is Enough

Written by senior Nicholas Merchant and sophomore Jasmine Tan, “Enough is Enough” tells the comedic story of Mr. Long, a Shakespeare teacher who has a breakdown in the middle of class after realizing that his students have no regard or appreciation for Shakespeare’s works. Yet, through interaction with a particularly disruptive student, Mr. Long finds purpose in making his students love Shakespeare.

Senior Derek de Jong directed the scene and did so by fostering his actors’ ideas.

“My process for directing ‘Enough is Enough’ was mostly to see how my actors envisioned the part and then to slowly work it into something useable,” he said. “So, for example, on our first day of rehearsal, I had them do a read through to see what they could bring to the character. Then, during the rest of our rehearsals, I tried to keep the original ideas there while helping my actors improve their enunciation and actions, so that the show would come out as a mix of how I envisioned it and how they envisioned it.
