Pizza Delivery

Written by sophomore Jasmine Tan and directed by Jasmine and senior Nicholas Merchant, “Pizza Delivery” tells the story of a socially isolated man, Daniel, who begins an accidental friendship with his pizza delivery man.

Senior Tommy Hsee, who plays Daniel, found that because the nature of his scene was so focused on his emotional experience, he was able to highlight his acting abilities through “Pizza Delivery.”

“I play sort of a socially inept person who has no friends and has never interacted with anyone before and is super awkward,” he said. “I enjoy a lot because it lets me show off my acting. It’s like a showoff piece and pretty much the stage is entirely mine and I really enjoy it.”

Tommy also played a drastically different character in “Medea,” so getting into Daniel’s character took a process.

“We do acting exercises, and one of them is called a fold,” he said. “You kneel all the way down, and while you do that, you think about your character, and then when you come back up, you should be fully immersed in this character. So, most people do that a couple of times, but I have to do that more because I have to play these two different characters. Luckily, they’re in two different acts, so I have the time to prepare for each of them.”
