On March 22, the U-High Midway received a Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
At the National High School Journalism Convention in November 2018, the CSPA informed the Midway that they would receive a Crown Award, but did not specify whether it would be gold or silver.
CSPA Crown Awards are given to digital publications, newspapers, magazines and yearbooks. There were 1,181 entries this year, and they were judged on design, writing, coverage and more, according to the CSPA website. In the print news category, 11 publications earned a Gold Crown, including the Midway.
The Crown Award competition is one of three annual contests held by the CSPA. The others are Medalist Critiques, for written evaluation, and Gold Circle Awards, for individual student recognition.
