A coyote was spotted wandering on Jackman Field as P.E. classes began at approximately 8:05 a.m. on April 25. This has been the latest in a string of animal encroachments onto Jackman Field.

The coyote, about the size of a large dog, escaped by crawling under the fence along Dorchester Avenue, and may have entered the field the same way according to U-High security staff.

The P.E. classes scheduled to take place on the field were sent inside until the situation was resolved. Once the coyote left the premise, classes resumed as scheduled. The missed time was not made up.

“It was really shocking when we first saw the coyote running across Jackman Field,” Stanley Shapiro, a junior with first period P.E., said. “Although, it was actually a really fun change-up to the gym experience.”

Mike Moses, who discovered the coyote on the field, had a different experience.

“It was 10 yards away from me,” Mr. Moses said. “I looked over at it and it looked over at me. It was definitely scary.”

This is the third time this week that animals have been found on Jackman Field. On April 23 and 24, possums were found inside the fence.
