Having placed second in state at the Jan. 11 Illinois Interscholastic Mathematics League meet, the U-High Math Team is on the path to a strong finish to its competitive season.

Four U-High students came away from the meet with perfect scores: senior William Zhu, juniors Anne Mykland and Alice Fan, and sophomore Dylan Sparrow.

The ninth grade participants ranked third, the 10th graders ranked 10th, the 11th graders ranked third and the 12th graders ranked seventh.

At an earlier North Suburban Mathematics League of Illinois meet on Dec. 9, the team placed fifth overall.

According to co-captain Jeffrey Chen, the team is preparing for the first meet of the regional Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics season on Feb. 26.

“We’re feeling pretty good,” Jeffrey said. “We’re hoping that we can do well and hopefully beat the other schools.”
