The Envirothon team won its regional competition on March 8 and will compete at state May 11-12, making this the first time in the past four years that the team has qualified for state.

“It truly means a lot, not just for myself but for the entire team,” captain Tyler Turek said. “Qualifying for state this year was a truly magical achievement.”

Along with Tyler, coach Daniel Calleri showed as much enthusiasm with winning regionals by immediately posting to the Schoology page.

“I was pleased because the last time we had this, we didn’t make state,” Dr. Calleri said. “It was nice to see what the kids were doing paid off in terms of getting to the next step.”

To be best prepared for state, the members have been studying their five topics and doing a series of practice tests.

“Over the past few weeks, the entire team has been hard at work studying as we try to learn as much as we possibly can,” Tyler explained. “Studying involves taking practice tests, which helps familiarize the team with what the competition looks like.”
