Gliding through the water, sophomore Julian Rossi uses the butterfly stroke to propel himself along the length of the swimming pool at Ratner Athletics Center on Feb. 3. The boys swimming team ended the season at the IHSA sectional finals, coming in fourth place overall.

The U-High winter sport season brought moments of victory, loss, anticipation and excitement to the U-High community. Here is a review of different moments from the winter sports teams.

Zara Siddique is a member of the Class of 2024 and serves as the sports and leisure editor. She joined the journalism family in the 2021-22 school year as a sophomore. Her favorite part of journalism is getting to meet new people. Light Dohrn is a member of the Class of 2026 and serves as the arts and entertainment editor. As a ninth grader, she joined the journalism family in the 2022-23 school year and previously served as an assistant editor. Her favorite piece she has written for the Midway is “Through classes, art teachers aim to grow art appreciation.” Outside of journalism, she enjoys classic books and Tarantino films.   Awards:

Milo Platz-Walker is a member of the Class of 2025 and serves as the sports editor. He joined the staff as a ninth grader in 2021 and returned as a junior. Outside of school, he enjoys competing in karate, listening to music, and spending time with friends.

Elspeth LaCroix-Birdthistle is a beginning photojournalist and a member of the Class of 2026. Elspeth's favorite part of photojournalism is taking photos of school events and being a part of the behind-the-scenes of the Midway and other school-related activities. Outside of school, Elspeth enjoys reading and dancing. She is also a member of the varsity girls soccer team.
