The U-High Midway staff took home the most awards in a recent contest for Chicago high school journalism.
The Scholastic Press Association of Chicago awarded the Midway staff the Sweepstakes Award for winning 14 individual and team awards, including 10 superiors and four excellents. The awards were announced on March 21, for work from Feb. 20, 2023, through Feb. 16, 2024.
Senior Sahana Unni, editor-in-chief, feels satisfied with the Midway’s performance.
“It was very gratifying to win that award,” Sahana said about the Special Coverage Award for curating and writing an in-depth story on affirmative action alongside Audrey Park and Clare McRoberts. She said the article was about an issue she deeply cared about.
Sahana also contributed to the Overall Newspaper and Website awards the Midway won.
Sahana said, “The staff puts in so much time and effort and everything into the Midway, and so every time we get an award it’s really special.”
