An educational student trip to Italy will be hosted by Latin teacher Frances Spaltro this spring break. Students who are interested may attend one of two information sessions: Sept. 23 from 12:10-12:50 p.m. in Judd C406 and Sept. 30 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Markovitz Theater.
Ms. Spaltro says the trip to Rome will provide opportunities for students in the Latin program to experience the materials from their classes in real life.
“Students in the Latin program are actually seeing many of the things that they have been reading about and learning about in their Latin classes,” she said. “We will actually visit the town south of Rome where the family in our basic textbook lives.”
While students in the Latin program will have prioritized entry for the trip, there will also be opportunities for students outside of the Latin program to learn more about Roman culture.
“I think there is something for everyone on these trips,” Ms. Spaltro said. “For students who are not in the Latin program on the trips, they may be interested in archaeology, architecture, the art, the language, or the political and social history.”
Whether through historical sites like the Pantheon, or the gelato stores and cafés on the streets, Ms. Spaltro hopes every student will find something to enjoy in Rome.
“There’s something for everyone. There always is, whether it’s food, or the beautiful landscape,” she said. “Rome is known as the Eternal City, and you really get a sense of why that is when you visit it.”
