Along with the changing leaves and the chilly weather, the fall season brings in many activities to Chicago. From festivals to exhibits, here are five activities in the city to try this fall.
Arts in the Dark is an evening parade on Oct. 19 that goes down State Street from Lake Street to W Van Buren Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It celebrates Halloween as an “artist’s holiday” and combines local art and culture with unique floats to create a vibrant environment of cultural acceptance. The parade is free.
Jack’s Pumpkin Patch Pop-Up is a vibrant fall festival north of downtown Chicago near Goose Island at 1265 W. Le Moyne Street through Nov. 3. It has a corn maze, games, pumpkins, food and other seasonal attractions. Ticket packages must be purchased in advance and start at $30. The different packages available to purchase vary in price based on what attractions the package includes.
Fall Fest at Lincoln Park Zoo is a seasonal attraction on Fridays and Saturdays until Oct. 27. It features activities like pumpkin carving, live entertainment and engaging with animals. Admission is free.
Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns at the Chicago Botanical Garden is a spooky event filled with intricately carved pumpkins that line the pathways as you walk through the garden. The event runs Oct. 16-20 and Oct. 23-27, and tickets range from $20-$25.
El Día de los Muertos is celebrated all around the city and in different ways. The National Museum of Mexican Art in the Pilsen neighborhood has an exhibition running through December that is free entry. There are festivals across the city, from places like 360 Chicago to the Pilsen neighborhood.
