In celebration of Día De Los Muertos, of the day of the dead, U-High students are invited to collaborate on a community display with a celebration to showcase it after school on Oct. 30.
The Latinos Unidos club members are arranging the display, called an ofrenda. Students from throughout Lab are encouraged to participate by bringing mementos such as decorations, sentimental items, photos and more for the display.
The ofrenda will be set up during the Latinos Unidos meeting on Oct. 24. Items for the ofrenda can be brought by students Oct. 24-30.
Isabella Alvarez, president of Latinos Unidos, encouraged people to contribute.
Isabella said, “It’s a great way to meet others, collaborate and learn more about everybody’s families.”
In addition, the Parents’ Association will hold a Día De Los Muertos celebration in the high school lobby. The event, sponsored by La Familia, will highlight the ofrenda and on Oct. 30 between 3-5 p.m. Students will be able to try traditional Mexican foods such as tamales and atole.
Lyneth Torres, La Familia parent and middle school Latinos Unidos faculty adviser, said,
“We want to showcase the Latino community and the Latino traditions at Lab.”
