Two new clubs at U-High are organized around helping the Hyde Park and Chicago communities.
Humanity Hyde Park hopes to fundraise, advocate and substantially contribute to victims of housing, food and financial inequity. Club leader Mulan Wu said she realized through service learning that Lab didn’t have a service club.
Humanity Hyde Park hopes to establish a Love Fridge, raise money through can drives and offer flex hours for sophomores’ service requirements.
Humanity Hyde Park meets Thursdays at lunch in C121.
The Food Recovery Club offers another opportunity to help the community by reducing community food waste by safely donating to established community resources like the Love Fridge.
“After seeing so many people in our community without food and in the greater Chicago area who are in need of food, our goal is to feed people and use our extra resources to help them,” club leader Uma Patel said.
Uma said she hopes the club will host food drives, food-packing events and raise awareness about food insecurity.
Food Recovery Club meets Wednsedays at lunch in C309.
