With the increase of screen time people have started to use apps like Kindle and websites like Open Library and Goodreads to read, and according to a study performed by Pew Research center, since 2019 there has been a 5% increase in online reading.
People should read physical books more than online books and use physical books to enhance younger children’s ability to read and stay focused.
According to a study done by Oxford University, reading physical books is better than reading online because physical books tend to help people learn more information, remember it and stay focused, while online reading can be distracting, and it is easy to forget the information being read.
Additionally, reading a physical book prevents less strain on the eyes and dedicates time away from screens to think and process whatever is being read.
Besides that, a study from Harvard medical school showed that when electronic books were used to teach younger kids, those kids were less engaged with the information and didn’t listen as much as when compared to a physical book, showing that physical books are better for young children, so they can experience the sensory details of reading through touching books.
While online reading is more convenient, reading physical books is more beneficial. There are many times a day when we are online, and we should prioritize time away from screens by doing the simple things that we could do without screens, like reading physical books.
