The P.E. department is opening up the fitness center, Kovler gyms and Sunny gym for students to get a quick workout before their finals.

Monday, Jan. 27, Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 30, students can work out in the gym building before their exams to help boost their brain activity.

“We had some turnout, not as high as we want, but it’s something that we think is valuable and so we operate again,” P.E. teacher Luke Zavala said about the fitness center and gyms being open last year during finals. The department wants to offer students another beneficial option to prepare for their exams, Mr. Zavala said.

Just 20 minutes of walking on a treadmill can improve academic testing performance according to a study conducted by the University of Illinois in 2009.

A small snack of breakfast of fruit, granola/protein bars, water and chocolate milk will be provided for students.

The gyms will be available Jan. 27 from 8-8:45 a.m., Jan. 28 from 7:45-8:30 a.m. and Jan. 30 from 7-7:45 a.m.
