A new club will attempt to connect the Lab community, particularly high school students,  through storytelling during the isolating time of COVID-19.

Junior Alp Demirtas founded Rhapsodes’ Rhetoric to foster students’ stories and provide a safe space for them to grow as storytellers.”

He said the club aims to bridge the virtual divide between students during distance learning in a low-commitment and stress-free environment.

Alp said that both the club’s concept and the storytelling forms he hopes to see present at the club are malleable and unrestricting. He said the club is for “all types of storytellers: from artists, to musicians, to writers, to photographers.”

The club plans to meet on Fridays during lunch.

Alp’s inspiration for the club came from his experience with distance learning in the spring.

“Not being able to talk to people made me miss that social element,” he said, “and I really thought about what I was missing.”
