With the arrival of autumn, Halloween decorations have returned to stores, pumpkins will soon appear on doorsteps and Halloween party planning has begun. Whether you want to host a gathering this spooky season or are looking for some fun snacks to make, here are four family-friendly snacks that you or your guests will enjoy.
Oreo spiders
Ingredients: Pack of Oreos, candy corn, pretzel sticks, frosting, M&Ms (optional)
Time to assemble: One to two minutes per spider
For a spooky addition to your Halloween spread, try these spider-shaped Oreos!
- For the body, grab an Oreo cookie and carefully separate it into two halves.
- For the legs, take three to four pretzel sticks and place them onto one of the cookie halves.
- For the fangs, stick two pieces of candy corn onto the cookie halves, with the tips of the candy corn sticking over the side of the cookie.
- To reassemble, place the other cookie half on top, pressing the pretzels and candy corn into the Oreo filling, and it is ready to serve.
Monster Rice Krispie bars
Ingredients: Rice Krispie bars (store-bought or homemade), white chocolate chips, food dye, edible candy eyes
Time to assemble: Five minutes per batch (two bars)
It’s alive! These adorable monster bars are creepy, cute and fun.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine ¼ cup of white chocolate chips and a half teaspoon of coconut oil, and microwave until melted, about 30-50 sec. Make sure to stir the white chocolate around 20 sec! 2. Once the white chocolate is melted, add two to three drops of your desired food coloring, and mix.
- Dip a Rice Krispie treat, coating half of the bar in the colored chocolate.
- Stick the edible eyes and any other decorative candy onto the bar, then transfer to parchment paper for cooling.
Fall Chex Mix
Ingredients: Pretzels, rye chips, bagel chips, Chex, mini-breadsticks, candy corn, pumpkin candy
Time to assemble: 1 minute
Whether eaten in one sitting or split into goodie bags for party guests, this snack is easy to make and delicious.
For this Chex Mix, pour all of the ingredients into a large bowl and mix. The fall Chex Mix can be customized to suit your tastes, so use whatever ingredients you’d like.
Ghost bananas and pumpkin cuties
Ingredients: Mandarin oranges, celery, bananas, chocolate chips
Time to assemble per snack: 30 seconds
If you need a break from sugary snacks, here is a simple and healthy recipe that still has a Halloween flair.
- To assemble your pumpkin cuties, grab a Sharpie and the mandarin oranges. On the peel of the orange draw a jack o’lantern eyes and mouth, and you’re done!
- For the ghost bananas, peel the banana and cut it in half. Add two mini chocolate chips to the top of the banana for the eyes. Then serve.
