The math team dominated the Regional ICTM Math Competition on Feb. 22 at Concordia University, where they placed first in the state for division 3AA. Approximately 65 teams competed.
The freshman/sophomore and junior/senior teams as well as individuals scored highly in each of the 11 events, including two levels of algebra, geometry, precalculus and orals. Zekai Wang, Tinson Xu and junior captain Victor Chen each received perfect scores.
“The second place team had, like, 600 points overall, while we had over 900,” Victor said, “so I’m pretty pleased with how the team did.”
Due to this strong performance and a lot of hard work leading up to regionals, the team will be competing in the state competition in early April.
Victor said, “We are hoping we can bring a similar performance to state.”
