All in all, pandemic restrictions are indispensable in the mitigation process of COVID-19, writes reporter Audrey Park.

Ever since the surge of positive COVID-19 numbers in the United States, obeying coronavirus pandemic restrictions such as mask-wearing and social distancing caused immense controversy. Such opposition was demonstrated through many events such as the anti-mask protests in Utah, Florida, and other countries.

Pandemic restrictions should be followed to protect and reduce the risk of spreading the deadly virus to both yourself and others.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regulating face-to-face contact and other forms of interactions is the best way to decrease the chances of spreading the coronavirus. Mask-wearing and face coverings showed to be 79% effective in preventing transmission. Additionally, data shows that the compliance of stay-at-home orders decreased the overall number of cases.

Although fatigue and impatience seem to be the real culprits of the resistance of pandemic restrictions, especially now, as the rollout of the vaccines progresses, people must persevere.

All in all, pandemic restrictions are indispensable in the mitigation process of COVID-19. With knowing that such restrictions could fend off death, it is the responsibility of all to obey them.
