I first joined the Midway during the spring quarter of my freshman year in the Accelerated Beginning Journalism program. Since then I have served as a reporter, assistant editor and  features editor. My favorite aspects of journalism are writing, learning about people and seeing my ideas through to publication. It’s very satisfying to think of an idea, and then, after weeks of hard work, see it appear in the Midway. My favorite story to work on was “Finding Faith” because I got to learn about worldviews very different from my own. In addition to working for the Midway, I am also involved in theater, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Chicago Youth Journal of Science.

FOSTERING DISCUSSION. Izzy Knowles, Michael Harper, and Addy Maciak, seniors, talk during a meeting of Feminist Club. Sally Carlstrom, a senior, and one of the leaders of the club, often worries that if a point she found offensive was brought up in a club discussion, she might not respond in the way she would like to. Respectful disagreement is a cornerstone of Feminist Club.
