I joined the U-High Midway staff in my freshman year as a reporter in the Beginning Journalism program, served as an assistant editor, opinion editor and news editor. The writing aspect piqued my interest, but since learning the nuances of journalistic technique, I have come to appreciate the dedication required for fair, free and holistic reporting. Outside of journalism, I enjoy practicing classical and jazz piano, playing tennis, studying neuroscience and eating gummy worms.

GOING FOR THE GLOW. Students dance and socialize at the homecoming dance Sept. 28 in Upper Kovler Gymnasium. Keeping with the theme “Glow Up,” Student Council provided paper and glow-in-the-dark ink to students throughout the week to write letters that could be read at the event. Glow sticks and colored-light accessories were also provided.

LOOKS CAN DECEIVE. While this might look like standard fried chicken, everything in this photo is completely vegan. Can’t Believe it’s not Meat, a restaurant that recently opened on 53rd street, serves alternatives to meat dishes, offering meatless nuggets, burgers and a wide array of other meals. Although the restaurant itself is small, people constantly enter and exit the space, seeking a supplement to meat dishes that does not stray to far from what they are used to.

STAYING IN SHAPE. One of many in the U-High workout facility, junior Zain Jansen does a lat pull
down Dec. 4. The room is usually packed with students breaking a sweat on different machines and
laughing while trying out new workouts with their friends. Zain goes almost everyday after school to
both stay fit, and have fun with his friends.
