Newsweek ranked Lab School as fifth best in their Top 5,000 STEM Schools of 2020 on Nov 8, placing it as the top school in Illinois and second best private high school in the country for STEM.

In cooperation with STEM.org, Newsweek tracked down the top schools from every region of the country “that offer skilled teachers who keep up with developments in these fields and who create dynamic learning environments to engage their students.”

In addition to skilled teachers, the University of Chicago provides educational and research opportunities to Lab students that most other schools don’t have the opportunity to receive.

“A lot of it has to do with what the poll highlighted: our interest in our fields. It is is a luxury with a very serious positive consequence. Being able to do projects and access the literature through the University’s website keeps us all dealing with the reality of [it],” Daniel Calleri, Science Department Chair, said.
