These modes allow users to explore an in-game setting of the NBA and play using avatars of real players with attributes that match their skillsets.
The 27th edition of this series, “NBA 2K26,” released on Sept. 5, 2025, does not disappoint with its goals, as the swift movements of players on both ends of the floor make the experience much more realistic, and each player’s skills are showcased on a stellar level.
“2K26” incorporates a dynamic motion engine as part of its newly built technology known as ProPLAY. According to the “NBA 2K” website, this feature looks to provide a faster and more authentic gameplay experience by using live NBA game footage to refine players’ lower body movements, including footwork and lateral movement, and eliminates discrepancies in previous versions.
The main factor that separates this version of 2K from previous versions, like “2K23,” is the elimination of the “skating” effect, an issue that creates unnatural movement across the court during games, usually while players transition from offense to defense. In “2K26,” while playing main modes like Quick Play, where two teams face off for six-minute quarters, every single foot movement on offense and defense is quick, smooth and efficient.
Not only does every run up and down the court feel similar to actual NBA games, but all the skills that NBA players actually have translate to 2K almost perfectly. In 2KU, a user can play in Freestyle Mode and train with the NBA player of your choice and test specific skills. From Stephen Curry’s jump shot to Victor Wembanyama’s footwork and Lebron James’ finishing, everything is precise.
This game’s sole purpose is to put users in the moment, where they get to make their own decisions, control the arena and be fascinated by the possibilities of this realm, and each version keeps getting better at doing that. Whether a user plays the sport or not, they will be hooked to the possibilities and realize that purchasing “NBA 2K26” was worth it.
