Three U-High photojournalists have received national recognition for their work in the Jostens Photo Contest and the Walsworth Photo Contest.
Sophomore Noah Gunning placed first, second and fifth in the Jostens Photo Contest and received four honorable mentions in the Walsworth Photo Contest. Noah believes his photos show impactful stories and emotions, and that helped him succeed in these contests.
“Since starting photojournalism as freshman, I’ve worked pretty hard to be mindful about the types of photos I’m taking, and it’s really nice to see that that has made an impact on people and that has made them pick the awards and help me win,” Noah said.
For photojournalism adviser Jayna Rumble, these awards are a testament to the photojournalists’ hard work and dedication.
“They put themselves out there a lot when they go out and take photos of the school day and sporting events and all these things that they’re photographing, and it can be kind of difficult or intimidating to get into the process of going out and taking photos,” Ms. Rumble said. “So, just to have recognition — and they know I think they do fantastic work — but to get recognition from someone else outside of this building and outside of the state on a national level is really exciting and affirming to their work.”
