Signs that prom is approaching are evident in U-High. Elaborate promposals draw attention and curiosity across the hallways, and people struggle to find a perfect prom dress, all in anticipation for the June 6 event.
U-High’s prom, which features an enchanted evening theme, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Congress Plaza Hotel’s Gold Room. The event will include a dinner and dance.
Tickets have been on sale since April 27 for $90.
Senior Camila Bravo, a member of the prom planning committee, said that the theme was inspired by Disney stories, though they wanted to avoid making it feel too childish.
“It’s mostly just storybook-related — like, royal ball vibes. That’s what enchanted evening is,” Camila said. “It also has really pretty flowers.”
For Camila, prom is a way to foster connection, allowing students who might not normally interact to have a chance to come together during a shared event. Common traditions, including buying a prom dress and “promposing” to friends, are experiences, for her, that wrap up high school.
“As a senior myself, I think it brings the senior grade together in the last moments before graduation,” Camila said. “It’s very intimate and it allows a lot of bonding.”
