The U-High Midway has earned recognition with the nation’s top awards for scholastic journalism.

The U-High Midway received the Silver Crown Award for Hybrid News from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. This is the Midway’s fourth Crown in a row, and 24th overall, but the first time it has earned a Crown in the hybrid category, getting recognized for both print and online.

The association also recognized both editions of the newspaper in its critique and evaluation service with a Gold Medalist rating, scoring the both the website and print version in 95th percentile or higher in all three categories, essentials, verbal and visual.

The newspaper is also a finalist for the Online Pacemaker award. If Midway wins this award on April 10, it will be the second Pacemaker Award for the website.

Managing editor Berk Oto is excited that the Midway is getting awarded for its relatively new online presence.

“It’s been a lot of hard work for me and the rest of the staff in order to adapt the Midway to this new online edition,” Berk. “It definitely feels good to be recognized for that work.”
