The varsity and novice debate teams continued to rack up experience by participating virtually in the Iowa Caucus Oct. 29 and the University of Michigan Debate Tournament Nov. 4.

Mahi Shah and Aaron Kim advanced to quarterfinals at the Iowa Caucus as 7th seed and were 14th and 13th best speakers respectively. Additional participants Serena Thomas and Sara Kumar were 15th seed and 48th and 49th best speakers respectively.

At the University of Michigan Debate tournament Connor Booth and Cyrus Esmailzadeh came in 58th seed in the varsity division, Sasha Duda and Siddarth Reddy came in 16th seed and advanced to octofinals. Sasha was 17th best speaker.

This year’s team is continuing strong, “It’s been exciting seeing the new debaters compete and reach elims,” Aaron, varsity team captain, said, “as well as seeing how much more successful the JV debaters are in varsity tournaments this year compared to previous years.”

Correction: Connor Booth and Cyrus Esmailzadeh competed in the varsity, not novice, division.
