The Poet’s Society Club will host a Poetry Fest on May 14 from 3:30-5 p.m. in Gordon Parks Arts Hall for their end-of-year poetry event.
Food will be provided at the event, and students are encouraged to sign up to read an original or published poem, monologue, skit or another form of writing. No prior experience is necessary.
In order to perform, students should fill out the Poetry Fest sign-up form.
Sophomore Orlie Weitzman, the president of the Poet’s Society Club emphasized that students don’t need to be talented public speakers or have a specialization in poetry to sign up.
“We’re hoping people who wouldn’t necessarily put themselves forward for a massive school event will come,” Orlie said.
Additionally, co-president Zach McKnight thinks that this event will be an opportunity for people to speak their minds.
“I think the whole purpose of our club is to have a space where people can feel comfortable sharing poetry,” he said.
Orlie is a member of the U-High Midway staff, and Zach is on the photojournalism team, though neither was involved in writing or editing this story.
