Volleyball
Record: 4-4 (as of Sept. 9)
The varsity volleyball team has enjoyed several early-season highlights, including a 2-1 victory over conference rival Regina Dominican on Sept. 8 and spirit days during game days. Captain Kylie Carter said that while the team has faced tough opponents, the team’s response has her feeling optimistic.
“ I think we have a great team. I think we’ve played some tough teams so far, and we’ve held our own against those teams,” Kylie said. “And, last night we pulled out a really tough win, so I think we’re looking strong.”

Boys Soccer
Record: 5-2 (as of Sept. 9)
The varsity boys soccer team opened its season with a decisive 3-2 win against Cristo Rey, the same team that knocked them out of last year’s regional playoffs.
Captain Danny Aronsohn, a senior, said that after a tough season last year, the team came in determined to rebound.
“The mindset was we wanted this to be a big rebound year,” Danny said. “We’ve already passed our win total of last year in the first week of the season, and I feel like we really have a special group and we really have a good group of seniors that are leading the guys this year.”
Important games:
Homecoming on Sept. 19
Senior Night on Oct. 10
Girls Swimming and Diving
Record: One meet so far
The girls swimming and diving team started its season with a quad meet, finishing fourth out of the five teams. Captain Sophie Li said that while the team is off to a solid start in the pool, the team is still adjusting to the start of the school year and lack of traditions.
With only one home meet so far, swimmers haven’t had the usual bus rides, meals or traditions that help them grow closer as a team.
“When we have away meets, I think we get a lot closer because we have meals together and because we spend so much time on the bus together,” Sophie said.
Important meets:
Senior Night on Oct. 1
ISL Conference on Oct. 26
Cross Country
Record: Two meets so far
The boys and girls cross country teams have been preparing for many late fall races since the summer. Their first meet was the Sixth Annual Cyclone XC Invitational at the Agricultural Science High School on Aug. 28. The team has also run at the Rich Dust Invitational at Thomas Fractional South High School, where Connor Lane placed seventh and Taara Sajdeh placed second. Taara was pleased with these results.
“It was great to get the team out there,” Taara said. “A lot of really, really good placements, and it was just great to see the team getting moving.”
Important races:
ISL Championships at Lake Forest Academy on Oct. 16
Bud James Invitational at Washington Park on Oct. 21
Boys Golf
Record: 1-3
The boys golf team is quickly approaching the end of its season. The team won 163-187 against Chicago Christian on Aug. 15. With a similar schedule to the girls team, the boys are set to compete in sectionals on Sept. 24. Junior Gian Mullangi thinks a lot of players have had to step up this season and play roles that were taken by now graduated players.
“We have had a good season,” Gian said. “We lost a lot of people last year, but I think we’ve come up; a lot of people have improved.”
Important competitions:
Sectionals on Sept. 24
Girls Golf
Record: 2-3
Having already competed four times over the summer, the girls golf team is finishing its season at sectionals on Sept. 24. They beat Latin on Sept. 2 and Lake Forest Academy on Sept. 4. Senior Vedika Dangi is very proud of the team unity that the players have built.
“In general, we’ve been getting a lot of team unity this year. It’s been really helpful,” Vedika said.
These bonds have been built up by shared homework sessions on the way to and from competitions.
“This week, a lot of our games are in the far suburbs,” Vedika said. “So we are all studying and doing homework on the bus, but it’s kind of like a team, so we’re all struggling together.”
Important competitions:
Sectionals on Sept. 24
Girls Tennis
Record: 2-2 (as of Sept. 10)
The girls tennis team, which will compete in around 20 matches this season, has had a very intense season so far. Junior Sophia Holt thinks that the schedule this year is set to be very difficult.
“We’ve done very well recently at state,” Sophia said. “So, then you end up playing harder schools, which is, of course, challenging, but I think it’s really good for the team and we’re going to get a lot better because of it.”
Important matches:
Lemont Tennis Invite on Sept. 27 at Lemont High School
Independent Schools League on Oct. 11
