After making it to the regional finals hosted at U-High, the varsity volleyball team ended the season on Oct. 30 with a loss of 25-17 in the first set and 25-9 in the second set to Geneva High School. Their season ended with a record of 17-14.
Three athletes also received all ISL honors: sophomore Gigi Wood and juniors Zora Peek Taylor and Kylie Carter.
After being moved up to Class 3A, a more competitive and larger division, the team worked more to adapt to the harder playing environment.
Kate Ryan, a senior, was proud of how the team adapted to the new competition.
“I think the team did really well. I think given it was our first year in 3A, we had done really well in 2A regionals and gone to sectionals … it’s not a result that I’m unhappy with,” Kate said. “I don’t think we played down to anyone’s level or that we didn’t play our best.”
Kate shared her happiness with how the team bonded throughout the season, which she believes helped their chemistry improve on the court.
“I think the Evergreen Park tournament on the second day of school was really one that bonded our team,” Kate said. “I think it was both a marking point for us really learning how to play well as a team, but also our resilience and really working together and seeing how we improved together was something I thought was really great to see.”
