A mid-year club shopping bazaar was held in the cafeteria at lunch on Feb. 18, organized by the Student Council to give clubs a second opportunity to recruit new members. Participating clubs set up trifold boards and presented them to interested students.
Sophomore Class president Shivan Sachdev, involved in planning the event, hoped to give students another opportunity to find their interests.
“We wanted it to feel low-pressure, while also bringing students together to pursue extracurriculars,” he said. “If even a few students walk away having found a club they can participate in, we would consider even that a success.”
For clubs that were founded after club shopping at the beginning of the school year, this bazaar was their first opportunity to advertise. One example is Poker Club, which sophomore Ben Lurye presented.
“Nobody got to see us in that video they played in Gordon Parks, so we wanted a chance to show our club off,” Ben said.
Some preexisting clubs also participated. Junior Lucia Dumitrescu said that her club, Girls Who Code, wanted to reach out to more students who might not have been aware of it.
“We decided to do this event because we have very few members due to not enough outreach early in the year,” she said. “I’m definitely seeing more people interacting and signing up, so I think this is a really good thing.”
